Blood pressure monitoring is an essential test for assessing how hard your heart is working to pump blood around your body. It helps identify high blood pressure, low blood pressure, and fluctuations that may be causing headaches, dizziness, fatigue or breathlessness.

At Heart Health Hub, our NHS-trained cardiac specialists use accurate, medical-grade equipment to give you fast, reliable readings with clear guidance on what they mean — all without long waiting lists.

What happens during the test

Depending on what you need, your appointment may involve either:

  • A standard blood pressure check — taken manually at rest.
  • Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) — a small device worn for 24 hours to measure your blood pressure throughout the day and night, whilst you go about your everyday life.

ABPM is particularly helpful if your readings vary, if you experience symptoms at specific times, or if your GP has suggested monitoring over a longer period.

Both options are simple and entirely non-invasive.

How to prepare

Preparation is minimal:

  • Wear a loose sleeve that can be easily rolled up to the shoulder, or a button down shirt.
  • Avoid caffeine, smoking and vigorous exercise for 30 minutes before your appointment.
  • Take your regular medications unless advised otherwise.

If you’re having 24-hour monitoring, shower beforehand as the device cannot get wet.

What to expect

For an in-clinic reading, you’ll sit comfortably while we take two or three readings to ensure accuracy. The process takes just a few minutes.

For 24-hour monitoring, we’ll fit a cuff and small recorder that takes readings automatically throughout the day. You can continue with your normal routine — work, walking, exercise and sleep. You will be given a diary sheet to record any activity and symptoms. The device will inflate every 30minutes when you're awake and every hour during your sleep - these times can be personalised to each invidiuals bed times to aid comfort when sleeping.

Your results

Your results will be reviewed carefully and delivered within 3 working days. We’ll explain what your readings mean and whether further tests are recommended.

If follow-up care is required — such as an ECG, cardiac risk assessment or priority consultant referral — we can arrange this quickly and often within the same appointment block.

At Heart Health Hub, we make monitoring fast, simple and reassuring, helping you stay in control of your long-term heart health.
